About Us
CarFreeWalks is a website for people who love walking but want to reduce their impact on the environment. We offer easy-to-use guides for walks throughout the UK that are accessible via public transport. All of our walks are submitted by our users – why not add your own CarFreeWalks to the database?
This
site is run by a group of keen walkers who are concerned about the environmental
impacts of driving cars to walks, and the lack of information about alternatives
to cars.
We hope you will enjoy this site and find it useful. Do drop us a line with your thoughts on this website.
Car Free Walking has many advantages:
- using public transport reduces carbon dioxide emissions, a major contributor to global warming
- not driving a car reduces parking congestion and damage to roadside verges at the start of popular walks, and prevents overcrowding on narrow country lanes
- using public transport helps to create demand for and support local bus services and branch lines, which are often vital in rural areas
- starting walks away from car parks may help walkers to discover less well-known trails and footpaths
Our friends helped us celebrate the official launch of the Car Free Walks website (October, 2007)
In November 2007 we were awarded Best Online Community at the Brighton
and Hove Web Awards and came second in "Best of Show".
And we'd only been around for a month!
