A half-day woodland walk in Snowdonia from Betws-y-Coed, Wales, 8.4km (~5.2m) long.
Start of the walk. Exit the station to your left; at the main road, turn right and walk up the main road to the bridge over the river.
Cross bridge, turn left to head along the riverside.
See the top and bottom of Swallow Falls for free; you have to pay on the other side of the river by the hotel, and you only see the top of the falls.
Take the steps to the right of the bridge, to exit at the Ugly House.
Take the lane on the right of the Ugly House, which heads steeply northeast through the woods into open countryside.
Nant Bwlch y Haearn outdoor pursuits centre is the turning point of the walk. It's worth pausing to look at the old mine workings history board and viewing point there.
Blue tipped wayposts should guide you into and along the foresty roads back to where you started.
Very easy going back along the riverside footpath.
Well done! Back to Betws for the train or bus home.
