Derbyshire delights in Dovedale
Duration: Multi-day Type: Riverside Dovedale is one of the highlights of the Peak District. This is a beautiful valley, where the River Dove has carved through the limestone plateau to create the stunning scenery seen today. This walk can be done in one day, but the best way to enjoy the gorge is to take two days. Start in Hartington, which is well served by buses, and finish up in Ilam or Thorpe (there are more regular buses from Thorpe). Duration: Half day Type: Countryside Head out north on London's Piccadilly Line to Cockfosters and you will soon find yourself in the beautiful Trent Country Park, full of meadows, woodland and lakes - perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle of the city for an afternoon.

Duration: Stroll (1-2 hours) Type: Countryside A short stroll in the heart of the White Peak, the southern half of the Peak District. This circular walk from the village of Birchover takes you to two rocky outcrops, which offer spectacular views and scary drops! Duration: Stroll (1-2 hours) Type: Countryside Stanton Moor, in the White Peak, is famous for its prehistoric ruins - over 70 burial mounds have been found here. The most famous site is the Nine Ladies Stone Circle, which dates back to the Bronze Age. The site was in the news in 2004 because of the protest camp set up to campaign against the site being ruined by a quarry.
