Alight the bus at the market square and head downhill beyond the Castle to the river. Follow the river to the roadbridge and cross. Follow the river upstream to the mini-roundabout road junction.

Cross the road and follow a (wayposted)path to the left of (or through) the park and simply follow the Silver Burn River upstream for about a mile.

After the mile cross by the footbridge onto the left bank of the river and continue upstream for 1/2 mile when a sharp left leaves the river and heads towards a farm.

As you reach the farm turn right along a track to reach the road a little west to the access road to Rushen Abbey.

At the road turn right briefly (ignore the first junction on the left) and take the signed route to Rushen Abbey (the river will be on your immediate right).

The road passes the front of The Abbey restaurant and beyond a ford/footbridge turns to track to reach the old Monks Bridge over the river.

Here we simply follow the left bank of the river upstream for half a mile or so to reach the Silverdale Glen boating lake (toilets here and cafe during 'the season').

Circle the lake (look out for the large goldfish - no it's not a Koi, it is a Goldfish!) then return back downstream to the ford/footbridge near the Abbey restaurant.

Cross the footbridge and follow Mill Road to the road junction and carry on in roughly the same direction (road signage to Douglas, Castletown).

At the next road junction carry on ahead to pass The Whitestone pub on your right, then Ballasalla railway station (on the left).

Just beyond the railway station turn left down the B53 through the industrial estate (it's not as bad as it sounds!) which after a mile veers sharp left and follows Ronaldsway Airport fenceline.

After 1/4 mile a path on the right follow the airport fenceline down to the shore at which point turn right and follow the coastal path to Derbyhaven.

Follow the coastal road through Derbyhaven back into Castletown (for a longer walk you could add a circuit on the Langness penninsula).

Reach the harbour and return buses to wherever. Walk is approx 9 miles long.
