Head to the south western fells in the Lake District and you can have the tops to yourself, even on a summer's day. The hills in this quiet corner are just as enjoyable as their more famous neighbours, and with fewer walkers and paths it's easier to lose yourself for a few hours (in a good way, of course). There's also the bonus of fine views across the Lakes, and out across the Irish Sea. The train line on the west coast provides easy access to many walks in the quiet and enticing region.
