Waypoints
Easy start to the walk - drop down the winding access road from the station, and into the village. Head north through Tyndrum - picking up an emergency flapjack if necessary - and pick up the West Highland Way at the far end.
The WHW runs between the A82 and the railway for a line - wave as the trains go by - before crossing the railway near Crom Allt. On the northern side of the burn is a long pull up a grassy slope. about halfway up are an old mine works - gold was once found in the Tyndrum hills.
Beinn Odhar tops out at 901m - not a Munro, but let's not get sniffy - the scenery is worth far more to the hill's status than a mere 13m more would add.
Past Lochan Choire Dhuibh is a slowly descending grass slope leading to Meall Buidhe.
It's easy walking to here, so enjoy that fresh air! Great views too, so spread out that map and work out which summits you can see. Descend by picking out the forest boundary due west.
Cross the bridge over the railway again and retrace your footsteps back to Tyndrum. For food, head to the Real Food Cafe; for a campsite, the best is just by Tyndrum Lower.
Back again! A great little day out.
