The Arrochar Alps provide lots of great walks, all just an hour and a half from Glasgow by train. This is a big walk, summiting three Munros - you can break it up with a wild camp half way around. From Succoth, the route heads over Beinn Narnain, across to Beinn Ime and finally up the rough ground of Ben Vane. The route home follows Loin Water out to beautiful Loch Long.

Waypoints

OS Grid NN312045
Take the train to Arrochar & Tarbet Station. Take the path on the northern side of the station and walk round to the village of Succoth.
Succoth About 1.65 km (~1.03 miles) from
OS Grid NN298053
Final chance for any last-minute supplies. Just beyond the village, and before you reach the loch, a track leads directly uphill and onto Bein Narnain.
Cruach nam Miseag About 2.07 km (~1.29 miles) from
OS Grid NN278060
The path leaves the forest behind and rises over the slopes of Creag an Fhithich and Cruach nam Miseag.
Beinn Narnain About 0.83 km (~0.52 miles) from
OS Grid NN273067
The summit of Beinn Narnain - 926m - has some spectacular views across the Arrochar Alps and Loch Long. Best of all is the crinkled horns of its near neightbour, Ben Arthur.
Bealach a' Mhaim About 1.03 km (~0.64 miles) from
OS Grid NN264072
Descend from the summit to the bealach between Beinn Narnain and Beinn Ime. For an easier day, you can descend back to Succoth from here via Coire a' Bhalachain. Otherwise continue up the broad southern flank of Beinn Ime.
Beinn Ime About 1.36 km (~0.85 miles) from
OS Grid NN256083
Beinn Ime the highest summit of the day at 1011m. Descend via the northern slope down to Glas Bealach.
Across to Ben Vane About 0.99 km (~0.62 miles) from
OS Grid NN261092
There's a bit of a walk across to the final summit of the route. Head east-north-east from the bealach to the ground near Lag Uaine.
Ben Vane About 0.89 km (~0.55 miles) from
OS Grid NN268097
Despite being the lowest of the three, the climb up Ben Vane is likely to be the most taxing. It's about 450m of ascent from the bealach, over uneven ground. So maybe time to crack out the flapjack...
Ben Vane About 0.86 km (~0.53 miles) from
OS Grid NN277097
Hopefully there's a bit of flapjack left to enjoy at the final summit of the trip, which is 915m. A path descends down the eastern side of the mountain, a well trodden path from Inveruglas.
Coiregrogain About 2.17 km (~1.35 miles) from
OS Grid NN298092
As you descend, aim for the river junction where the Allt Coiregrogain meets Inveruglas Water. Just near the forest boundary is a bridge across the water.
The path back home About 0.41 km (~0.25 miles) from
OS Grid NN302091
Across the field, pick up the path in the opposite patch of woodland. This takes you around Dubh Chnoc and on to Loin Water.
Along Loin Water About 1.38 km (~0.86 miles) from
OS Grid NN308079
Classic end to a Scottish trip - walking out on the forest tracks. The track passes along the clearing cut through the forest.
Back to Succoth About 3.10 km (~1.93 miles) from
OS Grid NN299049
The track leads to Succoth, or continue straight on to the station.
Arrochar & Tarbet station again About 1.17 km (~0.73 miles) from
OS Grid NN310044
Back to the station for the train homewards.
