This walk follows the Whitendale Valley in the Forest of Bowland, taking the high route over the fells to head out then returning via the riverside path. The area has several interesting bird species, including hen harriers and merlins, and is a wild corner of Britain. There is a good bus service to Dunsop Bridge from Clitheroe and Settle.

Walk Distance

The walk distance is included in the introductory paragraph "A circular, full-day low hills and fells (below 600m) walk in UK starting at Dunsop Bridge, Lancashire, about 17km (roughly 11 miles) long and unsuitable for families with children, prams/pushchairs, wheelchairs." The distances are always approximate as our route descriptions avoid going into the finer detail and instead offer suggested waypoints rather than an exact route. More detail about how we calculate distance is available on our FAQ's page.
