This countryside walk in Hertfordshire makes for an excellent excursion from London. Just half an hour from Euston, the walk starts from the station and passes through farms to reach the beech woodlands of Berkhamsted Common. It's a great wildlife spot, with a good serving of birds to watch out for.

Berkhamsted

I think 'wild' might be pushing it, but it's a great walk nonetheless. The woodland at the top is very atmospheric, early morning or dusk would be best (if the buses allow!)

Gonna Try This One...

...i'll let you know how I get on. I see the common so often in books recommending wild places in the UK. Thanks for detailing it. There's a bus from Aylesbury goes near the station :)

What do you think?
