This is less of a fixed route, more a summons to a great little corner of the Lakes. There are well-marked trails throughout Thornthwaite Forest, and you can pick up leaflets at the visitor centre. Keen walkers will want to head for Barf and Lord's Seat, which rise above the conifers, but there is plenty for others to enjoy among the many trails.

Snowy Scenic Woodland Walk With A Great View

Completed this walk today (February 2018). It was 0 degrees at start point! Parked at side of road near Whinlatter Visitor Centre. Saves paying for parking. There was snow on the paths all the way. The paths were good all the way and the pine trees looked beautiful with snow on them. What a view at the summit! Looks across to Dodd woods opposite & Skiddaw, Bassenthwaite & Kewick can be seen.
