This long day out crosses part of the southern Yorkshire Dales. You pass nearby a few local 'honeypots' on route - Malham Cove, Gordale Scar - but the focus of this route is the wild dales scenery between the towns. You can reach the start and end points easily from Skipton.

Reverse The Route

Hi Mac, good point about the transport. In winter it might make sense to reverse the walk and head towards Settle, as the transport connections there are better. Or plan to spend the night in Grassington, which has great pubs and fish and chips! One option is the Bunk Barn, which has single beds for £25 (when it's not block-booked): www.grassingtonbunkbarn.co.uk

Bus Service

Just be wary that the bus service from Grassington back to Skipton/Ilkley is very limited. See the Dales Bus website at http://www.dalesbus.org/ for latest service times. Currently (Winter 2015)the latest return service from Grassington to Ilkley is at 17.40 and from Grassington to Skipton at 18.10
