This stretch of coast has some of the best sunsets in Britain, with spectacular views across Morecambe Bay to the southern Lake District. Morecambe has a tarnished reputation as a holiday destination, but this walk shows just some of what this loveable old town has to offer.

Excellent suggestion, Mac. My tip would be taking a good long fish and chip break at Morecambe Bay to enjoy the views! But for the transport, you are right it would make more sense to travel to Heysham Port first, then finish at Morecambe where there are much better connections.

Actually I find the reverse a better walk as, on a good day, you have the whole of Morecambe Bay set out in front of you and a staggering outline of the southern Lake District tops in sight for most of the walk, breathless! St Peters Church in Heysham (along the route) is a wonderful sight in early spring when the churchyard has a covering of snowdrops. For transport, there is only one train in each direction per day Mon-Sat. This (2015) arrives from Lancaster/Morecambe at 12.55 and returns at 13.15 ultimately arriving from/departing to, Leeds.
