On this walk in the most northerly part of the Clwydian hills, there are extensive views over Prestatyn (which lies immediately below), Rhyl, the Vale of Clwyd and the North Wales Coast, and the start of the Offa's Dyke path which heads South through Wales. Paths are steep and narrow and, as I found out, very slippy when wet; I would not recommend taking children.

Similar to, but slightly different from, Walk No. 13 in Book No. 32 (Pathfinder Guides) North Wales, Snowdon and Offa's Dyke. From the station, walk straight ahead past Offa's Inn (willpower required) up the High Street to the junction with Meliden Road. You should see the Cross Foxes pub (more willpower required); turn right.

Turn left into The Avenue, follow round to what appears to be a dead end, look left for an opening, and go up to meet the tarmac lane 'Bishops Wood Road'. Look for the kissing gate entrance and Board Sign for Coed yr Esgob, waypoint 4.

With the fence on your right, walk up two flights of timber staircases - great views over the Vale of Clwyd to Great Orme (Llandudno walk), Snowdonia (Snowdon, Llugwy and Betws-y-Coed, Tal-y-Cafn and Rowen, Llyn Padarn and Llanberis, Llyn Dinas and Beddgelert walks, etc.), and south to Loggerheads, Moel Famau and Jubilee Tower. At the sign for Gwaenysgor, turn left for a short walk over a field into the village and waypoint 7.

I decided to take the easy option here and stay on the tarmac. Follow the road down to the crossroads and waypoint 8.

Turn right, and you should see a sign for Bryniau. Follow this to the first road on the right, which says "unsuitable for heavy vehicles". Go down a steep hill to meet Tan-yr-allt road and waypoint 9.

Meets Meliden Road at The Miners Arms (more willpower required), turn right, and look out for sign for Ancient Roman Baths (I would not have found this following the trail in the book). Pass the High School to S-bends and waypoint 10.
