An easy to follow linear walk on mainly clear paths. The route takes you through the heart of the south Torridon peaks and feels more remote than the relatively easy going suggests. Good views of Beinn Eighe, Liathach and Beinn Alligin from the early and late parts of the walk. The more energetic could take in Maol Chean-dearg en-route! Subject to bus times, the route could equally be walked in the opposite direction.

The walk starts where the path to the Ling Hut leaves the A896 Torridon to Kinlochewe road. A small number of buses pass here most days and a bit of research will enable this route to be completed car free. Set off south and cross the river Torridon and pass the Ling hut.

Follow a clear stalkers path along the east bank of the Allt Frianach. Pass small loch na Frianach and head for Coire Grannda. Good views across to Liathach and Beinn Eighe from this early part of the route.

The stalkers path disappears up the hill to the left but keep straight ahead across Coir Grannda to pick up the path from Achnashellach towards Torridon. Follow this over Bealach Ban to the head of Coire Fionnaraich. Good views of Maol Chean-dearg ahead.

Coire Fionnaraich is more a large bowl than a corrie but it seperates the two highest South Torridon peaks Maol Cheann-dearg and Sgorr Ruadh. At a junction in the path keep right to cross the Bealach na Lice.

Descend to Loch an Eion with views of Beinn Damh ahead. A lovely place for lunch stop on a fine day. Follow the exit stream heading north from the loch.

The path leads to a set of stepping stones across the Allt Beithe which will only be a problem in spate. Follow the path onwards under the crags of Beinn na h-eaglaise.

Liathach looms impressively large to the north as you descend. The Allt nan Corp has a bridge. Continue on the path NW.

Great Route

I did this route a year or so ago. Beautiful scenery in this unspoilt area, ideal for a day when the weather makes the bigger peaks less hospitable.
