Win a signed copy of World Tree Story - history and legends of the world's ancient trees

Each quarter we enter everyone who submits a car-free walk to our website into a prize draw to win some goodies.

For the July to Septembr 2016 prize draw we are giving away two signed copies of World Tree Story - history and legends of the world's ancient trees by Julian Hight.

Following the success of Britain’s Tree Story for National Trust in 2011, Julian Hight set out to capture 100 historic, ancient trees of the world for his most recent project. He travelled extensively, from the UK to New Zealand and Australia, Japan to the USA, across Europe and Scandinavia, sourcing the subjects from archive engravings and photographs, and re-photographed them in the present day to add historic context.

World Tree Story front cover

The result is ‘World Tree Story – history and legends of the world’s ancient trees’ – a lavishly illustrated 256 page hardback book documenting 100 magnificent trees across 39 countries. A celebration of the world’s oldest, largest and most famous trees (and sometimes not so famous), detailing their story while also telling the human tale, this book ultimately calls for their preservation. It includes a gazetteer of where to find the trees, which almost always necessitates a good walk!

"A great book with such detailed research on the stories and history of these amazing trees. The images are so striking and I love the way it compares historical images with present day ones.” - Woodland Trust

To be entered for the draw, register here (if you haven't already), then click on submit a walk and follow the steps to add your route to the database. We will pick out the lucky winner in a draw at the start of October 2016 and don't forget that you can submit as many walks as you like for more chances to win.

The Car Free Walks website is an entirely not-for-profit venture. If you would like to support our project by providing some prizes for a future quarterly draw then we would be delighted to hear from you! Please contact us to discuss.

If you're lucky enough to win, we will need to ask you to provide your name and address so you can be sent your prize. Without it we'd be kind of stuck. We would also really like to post your name on the Car Free Walks website so we can tell people that you won - but you can ask us not to do that.
