The beautiful Georgian market town on the banks of the river Welland is a great place for a wander in it's own right, but starting at the train station (or the bus station) head to the river meadows.
OS Grid TF027069
The open mown lawns of Stamford River Meadows is a much loved recreation area of the town and as you head up stream you'll find yourself heading west away from the bustle of the historic centre.

Just keep the river on your left heading out and the meadows get wilder and more natural historic countryside features. Spot a Kingfisher? Or a Red Kite?

Opportunity to cross over the welland and try and find an eel in the depths. Or play Pooh sticks

Inviting as it may look, this is not a great place to swim as the river runs deep and dangerous. The A1 is not visible, but you'll hear it. Cross under the tunnels to head South away from river.

A choice place to cross is at the crossing point. Up the bank ahead and mind the wetter pools of the tributary stream.

Head up through whichever path you like the look of into the farm fields ahead of you. The paths are well walked and I have once pushed a pram here without too much difficulty.

You've now hot cracking views to the north east and see how many church spires you can spot?

With it's profusion of cathedral like lime trees, the church lane into Easton village will leave you wondering if you've stepped back in time.

Turn Right through the village and consider the Blue Bell for wonderful real ale and Italian cooking. By an actual Italian.
About 0.41 km (~0.25 miles) from

Continue straight ahead, and you'll leave the village via a small housing estate, and down a well kept track past the playing fields.

This might not be everyone's cup of tea of a view, but there's an amazing cement works to the north of you and we all use cement.

Walking down the hill to the river valley, it's a shame you can't hit the waters edge, but it's pleasant and easy walking

Cross the minor raod carefully, check the bridge out, it's good and the water is still flowing right? Pooh sticks again anyone?

There's a permissive path ahead, and keeps you off the main road, turn left at the sewage works to head up to the top of the hill and Collyweston

It's s quiet village road, but there's always someone being silly. Don't be one of them or get caught out! The village has a little community shop open 7 days and a fantastic pub across the a43.

Is great for a rest, a pickup or a pint. Friendly and well run, they do have accommodation as well as food. Turn left at the traffic lights and walk east to Easton along the footpath of the A43.

The permissive path brings you back out here, turn east or right to the play park, BUT go into the play park and across the cricket pitch to the Deeps nature reserve
About 0.74 km (~0.46 miles) from
OS Grid TF005036
Deeps is a former extraction site now famous for its butterflys and flowers. it's lovely, and as you head through it, you'll emerge back onto the A43, for a short distance into Easton again.

Make yourself get off the road and up this little side turn into Easton housing estate. The loop of housing you were on with the post office links to this road and you just follow it around again.

Either go through the village (recommended) or along the A43 just after the Racecourse Road (no longer a racecourse unless you're a motorbiker it seems) there is a bridleway access to Wothorpe Woods

OS Grid TF024051
Walk through the well trodden woodlands, past the ruined turrets of Wothopre Manor houseand turn north down the hill to the village
About 1.11 km (~0.69 miles) from
OS Grid TF024054
It's quiet round here, when there's no traffic on the main road, but you won't see traffic, just sneak under the bridge and across in to newly platned woodland on the edge of town.
About 0.33 km (~0.21 miles) from
OS Grid TF028060
It's posh around here. But make the effort to walk up the hill, and the top road as the views are better and you'll see more sheep
About 0.65 km (~0.4 miles) from
OS Grid TF031061
See the views are better here aren't they?! Walk down the hill across the fields past the sheep and almost directly back to the town.
About 0.32 km (~0.2 miles) from
OS Grid TF029066
We're back in town and you've had a lovely walk. Find the bridge to cross down the quiet streets and the station or bus stop over the meadows.
