There are loads of great walks from Betws-y-Coed – the perfect way to warm up for an assault on Snowdonia’s mountains. One of the best routes follows the Afon Llugwy upstream through the forests of the Llugwy Valley, including a visit to the spectacular Swallow Falls. This walk finishes in Capel Curig, home of the Bryn Tyrch, one of Snowdonia's best pubs.

Start of the walk. From the station, head across the park and turn right at the road. Head northwest for 250m, before crossing the bridge over the Afon Llugwy.

The path soon drops back to the river and the spectacular Swallow Falls. The path itself is fascinating - narrow, twisting and overhanging rocks all add to the experience. The Falls are particularly impressive after heavy rains, crashing down towards Betws-y-Coed.

Past the Falls, the path heads to The Towers, an Outdoor Pursuits centre. Here, take the road heading steeply uphill and pick up the footpath skirting the edge of the forest towards Glyn Farm.

The path heads through the forest and then across the open ground towards Bryntyrch and the Plas Curig Youth Hostel. Just past here is the Bryn Tyrch Hotel, one of Snowdonia's best pubs, complete with roaring log fires, fine ales and fantastic food. Perfect for ending the day's walk.
