Lochaber, in the West Highlands, is one of Scotland's finest walking regions. This route takes you through some of the lower hills south of Loch Morar. The route described here heads from Lochailort Station to the shore of Loch Morar, then returns the way you walked in, but the area lends itself to exploring and picking your own route across the hills. Good boots, gaiters and a map and compass all required! This walk comes courtesy of the Information Centre in Arisaig - thanks!

This is the site of an old hunting lodge. A postman used to walk here every day from Lochailort to deliver the mail! Carry on along the track to the loch shore.

For a different way back, stick to the eastern side of the river and continue to the small land bridge just north of Loch Beoraid. Near here, look for Prince Charlie's cave (marked on the OS map) - where he rested before sailing to Skye.

Return via the track to Arienskill, from where a short road walk takes you to Lochailort. If you have time to kill, head past the station turn-off to the Lochailort Inn and wait with a pint of something frothy.
