From Cullercoats to Whitley Bay is more than just a line from a Dire Straits song; it's also a great little seaside walk. What Mark Knopfler forgot to say was that it's even better if you continue on to St Mary's Island to the north. Maybe that didn't fit the chord pattern.
It's not wild or remote out here, just a breath of fresh sea air a short hop from Newcastle.

A good way to extend this walk would be to start with rojob's 'Historic Tynemouth' walk and then head north along Cullercoats beach and join this walk at Smugglers Cave.
