Oxleas Wood, deep in southeast London, is a welcome green space for nearby residents, and is well worth the bus ride out here for other capital dwellers. These ancient woodlands have numerous trails connecting to the nearby patches of Jack Wood and Castlewood, meaning you can meander as the fancy takes you. There is an excellent cafe in Oxleas. Follow the path into the heart of the wood, the largest in this little run of ancient forest. You can extend the walk by heading south into Shepherdleas Wood.
