Exit the railway station and follow the road downhill into the village. At the junction with Front Street turn left briefly then follow the road right over the River Eden.

Follow the road ahead (ignoring turn-offs at right then left) as it rises uphill. After 3/4 mile reach a wayposted track on the right just before Faugh Head. Follow the track as it rises the hill.

Follow the tree lined track for 3/4 mile to reach the tarmac road at Longdales and turn right to follow the road to a T-junction. Turn left briefly to reach a waymarker post on the right.

Follow the wayposted wide path downhill through Coombs Wood. Ignore any side paths and keep on the RoW track for a little over a mile.
