After a steep climb out of Haydon Bridge, there is a short walk along the ridge with fine views over the valley. The route then descends to the valley to follow the river all the way to Hexham.

After a very short walk up the hill from the rail station, the entrance to the R.C. church is met. Enter the forecourt and the exit is through a small gate in the top left hand corner.

Pass thro' the gate at the R.C. church and follow the initially indistinct path uphill with the hedge on your left. Pass through 3 kissing gates and the house of Tofts soon comes into view. At the top, exit this field by the small gate on the left to access the minor road.
