Continue along the road until you reach Pilgrim's Way. The friendly residents have decided their houses are too posh for commoners to see and put a gate across the entrance. Ignore it and head up the hill.

The path leads round the top of a steep wooded slope - the south-facing escarpment of the North Downs - on to the open countryside of the North Downs. There is a curious temple in the corner of the field, with one of those things that tells you which hill is which on the horizon.

Follow the path over Colley Hill. The path is very near to the M25, but thankfully it is heard but not seen, so doesn't spoil the walk. Great views over to Leith Hill and Box Hill, and as far south as the South Downs.
