Even on a foggy, frosty day, this walk, on the same rail line as my walks at Delamere and Northwich, was well worth it. Free access for all pedestrians to parklands; NT members free entry to mansion and gardens; 50% discount to Home Farm and normal admission charge to Old Hall (includes guided tour). Check opening times with NT website: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/tattonpark Changes are inevitable with the changing seasons, but this was a truly worthwhile experience and for any aircraft enthusiasts, the estate lies directly beneath the takeoff flight path of runway 2 at Manchester Airport, so, on a good clear day, you should see plenty of planes.

I would recommend a visit to anyone. 50 acres representing most gardening styles since the 1700s: kitchen garden, vegetable garden, rose garden, tower garden, Italian garden, topiary, Japanese garden, conservatory Charlotte's garden, etc. and a maze if you want to lose the kids! See photos at flickr, you can easily spend a few hours there.

After doing and seeing all I could at this time of year, (and I would certainly visit again) I left down the main drive. I caught a view of one of the herds of deer; venison available in farm shop. Head back to the station.
