The Jurassic Coast is a World Heritage Site and there's no better way to explore than by foot. This walk, along the South West Coast Path from Sidmouth to Seaton, takes in some of the best scenery of the coast. Don't be fooled into thinking it's a coastal ramble - there's some serious legwork to be done.

Devon's coastline is rugged and no mistake. It's a steep climb - the first of many - up to Salcombe Hill Cliff.

Drop down the other side into Salcombe Mouth.
About 1 km (roughly 1 miles) from 4 OS Grid: SY153878

The route takes a small diversion inland and then drops again to Weston Mouth.
About 1 km (roughly 1 miles) from 6 OS Grid: SY174881
Up again to Coxe's Cliff. The vantage point from the top of the cliff is a wonderful way to get a sense of the scale of the coast - you can see for miles.
About 1 km (roughly 1 miles) from 7 OS Grid: SY183882
The path descends, more gently this time, to Berry Camp.
About 2 km (roughly 2 miles) from 8 OS Grid: SY204881
Head through the National Trust land at Branscombe Mill. Save your visit for another day - there's still a way to go.

About 1 km (roughly 1 miles) from 10 OS Grid: SY226879
Continue to Beer Head, where the coast veers north. The cliffs here are famous for their fossils, and many collecters scour the chalk for them.
About 1 km (roughly 1 miles) from 11 OS Grid: SY230891
Along the edge of South Down Common to Beer. And you may well need one by this point. There are buses from Beer to Seaton if you have done enough for the day.
About 1 km (roughly 1 miles) from 12 OS Grid: SY234896
From Beer, head past Seaton Hole into the main town.
About 1 km (roughly 1 miles) from 13 OS Grid: SY245900
Finish in Seaton. Buses head back to Sidmouth regularly. It's also a pleasant place for an overnight stay (as is Sidmouth) if you fancy some more coastal walking the next day.

Get it right
Salcombe Hill (Para 3) is in Devon not Dorset!
