This circular walk is a wonderful mix of canal and farmland.  There are several pubs and cafes along with a picnic site near Cafe de Lune which give you plenty of options.  It is a great family walk and particularly in the colder months is very peaceful.

The walk starts at the Plough Inn in Galgate near Lancaster LA2 0LQ. There are bike racks at the back of the pub and the numbers 40,41 and 42 buses which run between Lancaster and Preston stop at the pub. Leaving the Plough turn left to walk along the pavement at the side of the A6 heading South in the direction of Preston. After about 20 metres you go past the entrance to a Craft Centre and turn right away from the road onto a path that crosses a bridge over the canal. Once you are over the bridge drop left down on to the canal towpath and turn right to head in a southerly direction passing the marina on the other side of the canal.

You continue along the Glasson branch for several miles passing a number of locks and the Mill Inn. Pass under Thurnham Bridge and continue until just before the next bridge where there is a small gate through the hedge at the side of towpath into a caravan park. Walk through the caravan park (first straight on and then left) to reach a roundabout at the exit of the park.

Outside the caravan park cross the road on to an unmade but perceptible path across a some boggy grassland for 20 meters until you head up a bank through some trees to join the Lune Estuary footpath. Here you need to turn right and continue for half a mile until you reach the Cafe de Lune.

When you emerge from Lune Estuary path the Cafe is facing you and you need to turn right onto a tarmac road. Follow this road past some houses on your left and the Condor Green Farm shop until you reach The Stork Inn. At the Stork cross the road to continue almost straight on through a small rough patch of land used for parking cars. This briefly leads to a path that after a couple of metres emerges onto a minor road.

Turn right on the minor road and follow it round past a couple of cottages on your left. Before another road joins the one you are on from the right take a stile on your left immediately before a garden wall into a field.

Follow the footpath over a couple of adjoining fields until you reach a stile in front of a wood. Go over the stile and then a stone bridge over a stream and turn left to go down the side of another field. After a few metres you go through a sheep gate into another field. Follow the left hedge of this field all the way (quarter a mile) until you reach Parkside Farm. Here you cross a stile (sometimes there are dogs in the farm yard) and continue straight on through the farm yard to exit into another field.

Following the footpath keep the hedge initially on your right until you reach an open five bar gate and go through and turn immediately left to follow the hedge (keeping it on your left) down the field to you reach the corner and need to go through an opening into a small area of wild hedgerow and the out into another field through kissing gate. Once in the next field you need to head diagonally left across the field heading towards a small copse which is initially out of view until you reach the brow of the hill. You enter the copse through a kissing gate and drop down some steps to walk through it (about 50 metres) until you leave it over a stile entering another field.

Keep following the footpath by turning right once you have crossed the stile out of the copse. This takes you through one field (boggy in the winter) into another heading across the middle of the second (following the trodden path) to reach a stile which brings you out on to the canal.

Turn right to walk along the canal towpath going under a bridge and then another bridge which is the one you crossed at the beginning of the walk. Go under the bridge and go through the gate to go on to the bridge crossing over the canal towards the road and the Plough Inn where you began.
