This fantastic little walk starts off with a little climb up Castle Crag where you'll have the first reward of the day. You'll be walking around Grange Fell, past Lodore Falls to the idillyc hamlet of Watendlath at the shores of the small lake of Watendlath Tarn before returning to Rosthwaite.

From cosy hamlet to cosy hamlet: the volcanic rock of the nearby quarry has been used for roofing slates for the cottages. Pastoral bliss in its nicest form.

The falls are feed from water from Watendlath Tarn. On a dry day this is as good a picnic spot as any. But you could also wait until you get to Watendlath and enjoy a cup of tea in the National Trust's tea room.

Watendlath is actually owned by the National trust - and as gentle a hamlet as any you've seen. If you're up for it, head over to High Tove: a steep ascent, but well worth it.
